EUDET Activities TA (TA1, TA2)  ·

TA

EUDET provides in the framework of Transnational Access (TA) travel support for European groups to access infrastructures. There are two TA activities

TA1: Transnational Access to the DESY testbeam

Experiments at the DESY testbeam can be supported throughout the full duration of the EUDET project (2006 - 2010). The DESY testbeam provides electron and positron beams with energies up to 7 GeV. More information about the testbeam facilities can be found at testbeam.desy.de .

TA2: Transnational Access to detector R&D infrastructure

Five installations to perform detector R&D which are being developed and constructed during the EUDET project are made available to interested users through TA2 including the possibility of travel grants:

1. BTELE: A high precision beam telescope with fast readout capabilities (JRA1). It will be developed and originally installed at the DESY test beam but can later be moved to other facilities.

2. TPC: A large and low mass field cage for a TPC providing a highly homogenous electric field (JRA2, task A). It includes high voltage and gas supplies and a fast readout system suited for modern micropattern gas detectors.

3. SI-TPC: A silicon based system to precisely measure the amplification and charge transfer properties of gaseous detectors (JRA2, task B).

4. SI-STRIP: Readout, mechanical structure, cooling and alignment systems for the development of Si-strip tracking detectors (JRA2, task C).

5. CALO: The installation to test composite calorimeter prototypes consists of an electromagnetic shower detector, an absorber for the hadronic part and the DAQ system.

TheTA2 installations are mobile and can be used at different sites. Among these places are the test beam facilities at CERN and DESY but also other laboratories of our consortium like CEA, CNRS-EP, CNRS-LAL, CNRS-LPNHE , FOM/NIKHEF or others for experiments without beam. The TA2 activities will start after the construction of the respective installations. The TPC is available as of 2008 and the other facilities as of 2009.

Eligibility

Institutes from all EU members states and countries associated to the 6th EU framework programme (Croatia, Iceland, Israel, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland, Turkey) can apply for the EUDET TA support. The applicant country is defined by the residence country of the institute to which the group leader is affiliated. In addition the applicant country must be different from the host country of the requested infrastructure. For instance, groups led by a person affiliated to a German university are not eligible for TA1 support as the DESY testbeam is located in Germany. Concerning the movable installations of TA2 these rules apply with respect to the country in which the installation is to be used. More about eligibility... .

How to Apply for Trans-national Access

Step 1 :
Interested groups should contact DESY testbeam coordinator Ingrid Gregor to consult with her on availability of the beam time or to reserve the suitable time slot.

Step 2 :
Groups eligible for TA should write a short scientific proposal of the planned experimental programme and send it to Ingrid Gregor. The proposal should address the following topics:

The proposal will be then evaluated by an international User Selection Panel. Upon approval the group leader will be informed and a project acronym will be assigned.

Here you will find the proposals approved in 2008.

The following steps are part of the TA-application procedure, please find below a description of this formalism.

Step 3 - prior to the visit at the infrastructure:
In order to receive travel support the group leader has to complete the

The application form should be filled out and signed by the leader of the approved project and sent to Natalia Potylitsina-Kube well in advance of your start of the journey. Pay attention of regulation for the reimbursement.

Step 4 :
During the visit at the infrastructure please fill and return the signed form

to Natalia Potylitsina-Kube

Step 5 :
Timely after your visit please fill and return

Project Summary Report and Travel Expense Statement The last form cannot be filled out electronically, it exists in paper form only (if you are by DESY pick it up by Ms.Britta Niemann, User Office; Bldg.25B R 212 , otherwise we will send it to you)

Basic Conditions for Travel Expense Reimbursement
• The most inexpensive means of transportation must be chosen.
• Enclose and return all receipts and tickets in original. Include the boarding cards. In case of e-tickets attach also a copy of the electronic booking confirmation.
• Expenses will not be reimbursed later than 6 months after your return.

Step 6 :

We kindly ask you to complete the EU questionnaire at this Web interface
