Actions after the restart of the MAC
This page summarises the necessary actions after the restart of the MAC for setting up
a Parallels Desktop with Linux and correct network connections. If you don't follow
exactly all commands listed here the network might become incredibly slow.
Restart of the Parallels Desktop
- Open the program "Parallels Desktop" from the bottom task bar.
- Choose "Scientific Linux 4".
- Press the green "PLAY" button (Hint: Sometimes the Linux hangs, then you can
select with the mouse the combination Ctrl+Alt+Del to wake up the Linux again).
- Login with username "eudet" and the usual pwd.
Setting up the network properly
From a MAC window:
- Select "System Preferences" from the bottom task bar.
- In the System Preferences window click on "Network".
- Check that both the "Parallel..Guest" and "Parallel-NAT" are configured "Using DHCP".
- Keep the Parallel-NAT open, so that you can see the IP address.
From a (Parallels Desktop) linux window:
- Type "system-config-network" (give the standard pwd).
- Click on "Hosts".
- Check that the "eudetmac ID" is equal to the IP address of the
Parallel-NAT (see above) - if not, change it by using the "Edit" button.
- Close the window.
- Back at the (Parallels Desktop) linux window: type "su -" and give the
standard pwd.
- Type "modprobe fuse".
- Type "chmod 666 /dev/fuse".
- Type "exit".
- Type "cd /opt/ilc/data/".
- Type ". mountdata.sh" and give the standard pwd.
- If you type "ll native" you should be able to see all runnumbers.
Then you are done!
